Born Again, a work of fiction set in Lagos Nigeria and the ancient city of Qu-stul in Ta-set, also known as Kemet or Egypt. The story flips intermittently between ancient times and modern times. It follows the life of Irima, a young, ambitious and just starting her career in an insurance firm. Irima is like every other young woman with dreams of making it in Lagos. She lives with her parents and three sisters in a vibrant middle-income neighbourhood that is a microcosm of the chaotic but cosmopolitan city itself. Irima leads a normal life, but her dreams are anything but normal. They are filled with visions of people who look nothing like anyone she knows. Things become more complicated when she is given an assignment to sell her company’s products to a successful oil and gas firm. The owner is Luke. He is distant, unfriendly and wants nothing to do with her, just as she wants nothing to do with him. A series of events commandeer them towards each other and to her horror, Irima’s dreams spill into her waking life. The lines are soon blurred and she no longer knows if she is Irima or Qalhata, the powerful and magical woman in her dreams who is bound by time to an old lover she must make restitution to. Luke is another main character of the story. He is born with the proverbial silver spoon. He has everything – a thriving company, wealth, a woman that loves him and a supportive inner circle. In spite of his lifestyle, Luke is haunted by dissatisfaction with his life and dreams about times that link him to an ancient warrior. He begins a spiral into self-doubt and soon loses his fiancée after a steamy bachelor party with strippers. His journey to self-realization is difficult. Then he meets Irima, the young insurance marketer who is determined to win his business for her company. There is something about her that upsets him and he can’t put his finger on it. Their paths cross again and again, and soon he finds himself caught in a web of intrigue, betrayal and revenge. Forces begin a battle for his soul. To survive, he must let go of his fears to embrace the love of the woman that can set him free and the truth of who he really is.
